Mobile Broadband’s Popularity Increases With Laptops

These days we are using the internet more and more, not just at home in our own time but many jobs necessitate being connected to our families or workmates whether itâs via email or even services like Instant Messengers or Skype calls.Â

The trouble is that we arenât always able to sit down at a computer in work or at home to connect, weâre constantly on the move and may only get a chance to connect to the internet for short periods of time like a lunch break or a few minutes in the hotel room on holiday or on a business trip.

Whilst many mobile devices like mobile phones and Blackberrys can get emails and view some mobile optimized web pages this is often a cut down version and many full web pages will not be viewable on these little devices.

A recent trend in mobile computing is the netbook, a smaller version of the laptop with many of them measuring 8â diagonally, they are designed to not be as powerful as many typical laptops but to be able to provide the internet on the go.

Typically these computers have built in wireless receivers so that you can connect to a wireless hotspot, which is handy for if you are at home and would like to connect to your broadband internet wherever you are in your house, or garden!

The thing is a lot of laptop manufacturers are starting to offer dedicated mobile broadband in their laptops, they essentially use the 3G networks that many people who connect to the internet over their mobile phones but donât use the usual phone call and texting capabilities.Â A lot of mobile phone networks like Vodafone, O2 and 3 Mobile have made the jump into the mobile broadband providers market.

Most of the current providers use a small USB dongle that houses the antenna and SIM card holder but with the growing popularity of mobile broadband some computer manufacturers like Dell and Advent are putting built in HSDPA cards within their netbooks so you donât need to use up one of your USB ports instead all you need to do is insert your SIM card and youâre away.

These deals tend to have a set monthly allowance in hope to promote a certain level of usage, for instance you would be able to use it to catch up with friends on Facebook and check emails but you are less likely to download movies and a lot of music as this would definitely have you reaching your limit in no time.

For many people this is an ideal way to connect to the internet if they are away from home a lot, such as travelling salesmen or if you live in a remote area where conventional broadband providers do not offer service.Â With many laptop makers taking note of this trend we may see mobile broadband becoming a new standard and present in even more devices in the future.
